We included links of related popular tamil news websites in the “News” Section of the portal. We believe this will be more relevant and convenient. If you feel any other link could be there, do suggest the link. (Our link ordering is mostly based on google page rank!)
We did some minor enhancements to ezines page to increase the speed of the page rendering. We ‘ve included “viruba” site link and other emagazines site links in that page. Again, we are sure we have missed a lot. Do suggest for the same.
For the purpose of suggesting websites to us, we have used a directory interface. As of now, it is named as Thenkoodu Directory Project (well, do you have a better name? do let us know). You can also contribute to this project which could be populated as a good list of valid links to various tamil sites and blog related sites over a period of time. 1) There seem to be a failure in ThirattiG’s feeds. Google’s Blog search mechanism which is an underlying architecture for the ThirattiG seem to have been changed. We hope to find alternatives.
(Update: Due to problem with the search mechanism of Gooogle, we display only blogspot blogs )
2) We have been reported of issues related to wrong images are shown for the post preview images. This normally happens due to certain special characters in the image or URL. (The wrong image itself is might be a previously cached one.) We are working on fixing the problem. In case if you are one of a victim, please send us your blog post URL.
3) Some users have said.. they have to do many pings for the aggregator to aggregate the feed. It’s more than 10+ times we believe. Kind of bad thou :-( .
Once a blog post is ping-ed and/or successfully aggregated, please give the system a breathing (caching :-)) time for the next post to get aggregated! (Tip: a repeated pinging does works!!)
We’ll soon try to fix the issues 2 & 3 … but we are keeping them in a kind of low profile since we are quite busy with certain other enhancements and services, just for you!

We have been working on this for quite some time. We must say, we were really excited to release this service to Tamil bloggers. This is a tool for storing your favourite blog posts by bookmarking them. We are sure, Pettagam - Social Bookmarking Service for Tamil blogs will be of very useful to everyone, if used effectively.
A More detailed explanation on this new service might follow. For now, we’d like to just point out some of the basic things.
Steps to use your Pettagam:
If you like a post, click on the Pettagam Image and bookmark it. The pettagam image appears just before every blog post in Thenkoodu. This will help you as well us others. (Choose public to be visible to you,everyone and private to be seen only by you. Use your Thenkoodu Login ID to log in to the system. )
The benefits:
1. You can have a list of your favourites blog post URLs bookmarked in single place, which is accessible anywhere anytime.
2. You can read the bookmarks of other bloggers readers and pickup and copy the ones you like to your bookmarks.
3. You can track your friends bookmarks specifically.
Overall, Using pettagam will help everyone of the blog readers/bloggers to pick up and read the posts which are liked and tagged by similar bloggers/readers like you. The more people bookmarking the same blog post, could be considered as more popular post!
We know, this might be of little confusing to many. But - Unfortunately, we have less time to write about this.:-( Please feel free to explore yourselves and do let us know your views.
Tip: To see only your bookmarks, Choose “என் குறியம்” in the drop down menu and click on “தேடுக”

- Wiktionary search was included in the dictionary portlet of home page for easy access.
The dedicated dictionary page http://dictionary.thenkoodu.com already includes, wiktionary!

Comments Pinger Code for new templates of blogger BETA was updated in the control panel codes section.
Techie Stuff: We have added extra line to validate if at least one comment exists. Thanks to B.BETA for the expanded possibilities.

Why?!
Well, why not?! :-)
Google - The trend setter of web 2.0 has really come out with a nice mechanism to integrate and aggregate instantly any blog posts that falls in to the category of Unicode Tamil. We have been monitoring this for quite some time and we should say that we are very impressed and wish to extend the benefits to our readers by including this in our portal. (There are some annoying catches like even Thenkoodu feed is getting aggregated! We are working on removing such annoyance.)
These posts will be totally un moderated, and will be shown as quickly as possible!
If we project Google aggregation, What is the need for aggregation of Thenkoodu.com - Tamil Blogs Portal?
Good Question Thou! We believe you are aware that Thenkoodu.com - Tamil Blogs portal is not only an aggregator but also a directory. As of now, we have a huge 600+ blogs details collected in our system (To add yours click here). If you ever need to find or locate a particular blog by category or tag or location, you can easily reach them. And further, we have quite a number of services like comments notification etc. which is not a implementation you can get from Google aggregator. Hence, as of now, we will continue to do our very own aggregation too :-)

We’ve updated our code for the enhanced support of more feed types. If you face any problems, please feel free to contact us.
Comments Pinger Code *BETA* for Blogger BETA is under development, and will be released soon.. However, if you choose to use the classic template, the same code should work!
UPDATE : Code for New Blogger BETA was already released. Please visit your control panel to get the new code or you may get the code from here too.

We came to know some of the recently registered users(rather spammers) , have been found to be sending SPAM emails through our contact author feature. Thenkoodu has a strict policy against SPAM. Those id’s have been removed from the system, and few more precautions were taken care to avoid such activities.

As you know, we recently included a convenient utility to look up tamil/english words in dictionary. Now, a update…
We included all the available Tamil dictionaries as a selectable option to look-up the desired word.
1) The university of Chicago’s http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/list.html#tamil all the available dictionaries are included.
2) Tamil Virtual University search uses proprietary font, which you might need to get the font installed in your computer to view the content in tamil. However, this is one of the (rather only one:-)) good dictionary available to search for technical terms.
3) Cologne Tamil Lexicon uses Tamil Lexicon included in the list earlier, however, many of our members use this interface because of it’s smart search results. This interface in TSCII, hence you need TSCII fonts to see the resulted word(s) in tamil.
